The Navy is investigating whether a fire that engulfed the USS Bonhomme Richard in July may have been set intentionally. The fire burned for more than four days along the oceanfront in San Diego, at times sending smoke billowing through the city. Wednesday, a defense official confirmed that the Navy is looking at whether the blaze that heavily damaged the ship was caused by arson. Investigators with Naval Criminal Investigative Service have questioned a sailor in connection with the fire. So far, no charges have been filed. “The Navy will not comment on an ongoing investigation to protect the integrity of the investigative process,” said Lt. Tim Pietrack, spokesman for NCIS.
