(Los Angeles, CA) — Retiring Los Angeles County CEO Sachi Hamai is getting private security after her battles with Sheriff Alex Villanueva. Hamai, who retires Monday, says Villanueva has repeatedly harassed and intimidated her during her time in office, leading to a barrage of online threats. Villanueva has publicly criticized Hamai in recent months, taking to Twitter to air his frustrations over her decision to cut funding from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. The county-funded private security will last until Villanueva’s term ends in 2022. The county has also agreed to pay her one-point-five-million-dollars, which her attorney requested “for all she’s been put through.” The sheriff tells Fox 11 that the speed of the deal without formal deliberation is “concerning,” and says Hamai is framing a policy dispute as harassment.
