(San Antonio, TX) — As coronavirus cases rise, there are some who are now donning two face masks instead of just one, hoping for extra protection against germs. Infectious disease specialist Dr. Charles Lerner says this will work. He says most of the masks that he sees people wearing are not doing a lot of good. Either they are too flimsy, too big or have vents that allow germs to escape. The Centers for Disease Control has not recommended double masking yet, but the practice generated buzz when people were seen wearing two masks at President Biden’s inauguration. Dr. Charles Lerner says one mask has limits, especially if it’s not fitted to the person’s face. Dr. Lerner says it’s easy to understand why this works.
