Security is being ramped up around the U.S. Capitol this week. It comes as President Joe Biden is preparing to deliver his State of the Union Address this evening. Capitol Police say that an inner-perimeter fence has been placed around the Capitol building. Several road closures will be in effect tomorrow evening as well.
No Florida soldiers are among the National Guard troops deployed to the nation’s capital for tonight’s State of the Union address. Governor Ron DeSantis says he rejected the Biden administration’s request last week to send troops to Washington, DC. In a tweet, DeSantis said, “I have rejected this request, there will be no Florida National Guard sent to D.C. for Biden’s State of the Union.” No reason was given for the denial.
