(Sacramento, CA) — Police in Sacramento confirm Sunday’s deadly shooting that left six people dead was gang related. The department is not identifying any of the shooters but say their investigation has determined at least five gunmen were involved. They are not elaborating on the gang ties or nature of the dispute, but say video evidence obtained so far shows that an exchange of gunfire took place between at least two groups of men. Detectives working this case have received a steady flow of information from the public. A dozen people were also injured in the shooting. Three arrests have been made so far.
This latest update prompted the LA Times, oddly to assert in a headline: “Sacramento Massacre was likely a shootout among rivals, not a mass shooting” (emphasis ours). Minutes later they changed their clearly aspirational headline to: “At least five shooters involved in Sacramento massacre, gang ties likely, police say”.
