Los Angeles Councilwoman Quits After Making Racist Remarks
(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nury Martinez is resigning. She was caught up in a scandal after a taped conversation was leaked in which she made racist remarks. Democrats including President Biden urged her and two other council members to quit. Council members Gil Cedillo and Kevin De Leon are also under pressure to resign. The trio was heard making racist remarks about Blacks, Jews, Armenians, dark-skinned Latinos and others. California’s attorney general is now investigating. That’s because the three politicians and a labor leader can be heard discussing redistricting. On the tape, they talk about ways to give Latinos more power at the expense of African-Americans.
