(Los Angeles, CA) — The embarrassing Los Angeles City Council is vowing to fight street takeovers while an embattled city councilman returned to cast his vote. Today, the council voted to study — not take immediate action to stop lawbreaking, deadly behavior– the trend of drivers performing dangerous stunts in busy intersections— known as street takeovers and ‘sideshows’. The vote comes after at least six people died this year at street takeovers. Caught-on-tape Councilman Kevin De Leon seconded the motion. He’s one of the members facing widespread calls to resign after he made racist remarks about redistricting on a leaked tape. Several members of the public blasted De Leon for taking part in the meeting which was virtual because of a COVID outbreak among members. Fellow member Gil Cedillo continues to be absent while resisting calls to quit. Former Council President Nury Martinez resigned her seat last week.
