A massive search is underway in Belgium following the detonation of three terror bombs today that killed at least 31 people and injured dozens of others. CNN correspondent Nima Elbagir says the Belgian capital was in lock down for hours following the explosions that rocked the international airport and the subway system.
“There are house searches going in the Schaerbeek neighborhood of Brussels. One eyewitness described seeing police special forces and a police cordon around the Schaerbeek train station. They’re searching everyone who goes in and out. We understand this is in relation to a picture that authorities here have just released which shows the three alleged attackers, one of them believed to be still on the run.”
Investigators are looking at the possibility that one of the bombs was a suicide bomber and another explosive device was possibly inside a suitcase. Elbagir says many of the injuries were in the lower portion of the victims bodies, which would support the suitcase bomb theory, if it was set on the floor when it went off. The U.S. military says one American service member and his family were injured in the Brussels attacks, according to the Associated Press. Earlier, Mormon church officials said three missionaries from Utah were seriously injured in the airport attack and have been hospitalized.
Elbagir filed her report on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show with Doug McIntyre and Terrie Rae Elmer.
