Orange County is about to lose 136 part-time pages at local libraries. The union representing regular full-time library workers has succeeded in pressuring the county to stop renewing the six-month contracts for the temp workers, some of whom have held the jobs for more than ten years. The union wants the jobs converted to full-time positions, or to six-month contracts that aren’t renewed. The Orange County Employees Association claims the practice violates its contract with the county. County spokeswoman Jean Pasco tells the “Orange County Register” that other library staff will assume the pages’ workload and the county will look to fill vacancies in nine full-time and seven part-time positions.
