What happens when a mom sees somebody watching porn on a computer in a public library next to the kids section? Nothing, according to mom and psychotherapist Natalie Zangan.
“So, I see this guy sitting right there, next to the kid’s section. Where they’re getting tutored, doing their homework and reading books. I talked to the librarian and she says the only ways she can ask him to shut it off is if he’s touching himself, watching child pornography or asking the kids to watch it with him. Otherwise, there is nothing she can do.”
Zangan says she was outraged and posted what happened on a local moms group on social media. She also reached out to lawmakers and discovered that in 2011, the LA City Council ruled that blocking porn on public library computers would be a violation of first amendment rights. Zangan, an Orthodox Jewish mom and her Rabbi husband were stunned.
Last year, City Council Member David Ryu, who was told what happened, introduced a motion to block access to lewd content on library computers. That motion still being considered. Meanwhile, this mom says she’ll continue her efforts to protect kids and inform parents.
Zangan was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
