(Ojai, CA) — An actor is hoping to follow Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Fred Grandy into the political arena. Anson Williams plans to run for mayor of Ojai in the November 8th election. The 72-year-old former “Happy Days” costar made the announcement during a June 28th Ojai City Council meeting. Williams told council members he’s “not a fan of growing tourism or constructing one more hotel.” The hotel issue came up last year when the Ojai Unified School District considered approving a developer’s plan to build a downtown 200-room hotel on district property. The O-U-S-D severed ties with the developer in January. Williams has lived in Ojai since at least 2011. He’s best known for portraying Potsie Webber in the sitcom that ran on ABC from 1974 to 1984. He also found success as a TV director. Upon learning of Williams’ candidacy, former “Happy Days” costar Henry Winkler tweeted, “You have my vote!”
