And there is this: Suspected Catalytic Converter Thief Dead
(El Monte, CA) — A man suspected of trying to steal a catalytic converter is dead after being stabbed in South El Monte. The L-A county sheriff’s department says the dead man was found in the driveway of a home on Thienes Avenue at around 2:45 a.m. L-A-S-D says the homeowner heard a ruckus in his driveway and came out to investigate, with a kitchen knife. A department spokesman says three other accomplices jumped in a Honda Accord and sped away. They are still on the loose. The dead suspect was found underneath a vehicle with tools such as a hack saw nearby. Investigators plan to interview the resident but no charges have been announced in the death.
