A former staffer of California Governor Gavin Newsom is facing corruption charges. A federal grand jury has indicted Dana Williamson on multiple charges, including bank and wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of justice, filing false tax returns, and making false statements.
Williamson, who resigned as Newsom’s Chief of Staff in December, pleaded not guilty to the charges on Wednesday. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison and a 250-thousand dollar fine for each count.
Court documents list Sean McCluskie as the co-conspirator who received the funds. McCluskie was the former chief of staff for former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.
