California Attorney General Rob Bonta is facing a formal complaint, claiming he improperly used campaign funds. Yesterday, the Fair Political Practices Commission’s enforcement division confirmed it received the complaint. Bonta is accused of violating the Political Reform Act by spending almost half-a-million-dollars in funds for his 2026 reelection campaign on outside legal help. That legal help was paid for after Oakland’s former mayor was indicted by federal prosecutors. Bonta, who once represented Oakland in the State Assembly, insists he was only involved in the case because he was helping investigators. Bonta’s campaign advisor labeled the new complaint a political stunt without merit.
