Federal prosecutors say longtime California lobbyist Greg Campbell has pleaded guilty in a sweeping political corruption case tied to top aides of Governor Gavin Newsom and former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. Investigators say Campbell helped Dana Williamson and Sean McCluskie divert 225-thousand dollars from Becerra’s inactive campaign account into McCluskie’s personal bank account. He also helped Williamson in falsifying documents during an investigation into her taking improper pandemic-era business loans. Campbell faces up to ten years in federal prison and 500-thousand in fines when he’s sentenced.
