The state of California is hiring two former CDC officials who criticized the Trump Administration. The state is bringing in Susan Monarez, a former CDC director who was fired in late August. It is also hiring Doctor Debra Houry, a former chief medical officer of the CDC. She resigned partly in protest of Monarez’s firing. Both officials said the Trump Administration was abandoning scientific standards on public health matters. Both are now serving as consultants for the California Department of Public Health.
