Wage garnishments may be coming back for Californians in default on their student loans. The Trump administration is resuming wage garnishments as soon as next month for borrowers in default. It will allow federal student loan payments to be taken directly from paychecks. California has the nation’s largest student loan population, with nearly four million borrowers owing more than 151 billion dollars in federal debt. Officials say affected borrowers will receive notice first.
