San Diego’s Democratic members of Congress are backing a bill by Representative Scott Peters aimed at tightening use-of-force rules for federal immigration agents. Representative Peters, Juan Vargas, Mike Levin, and Sara Jacobs said new standards like body cameras, limits on military-style gear, and clearer identification could prevent future deaths and confusion. The group is also demanding accountability from the Department of Homeland Security, with Levin and others now calling for the impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem if she does not resign. President Trump has publicly said he supports Noem and wants an investigation. The fight now heads to Capitol Hill, where Senate Democrats say they may block DHS funding until reforms are made, raising the prospect of a budget showdown as the shutdown deadline approaches.
