Another version of the plan to ask voters to tax second homes in the city of San Diego has unanimously passed the council’s rules committee. The second plan now moves to the full council, and if passed there, would go on the June 2nd primary ballot. The proposal from San Diego City Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera is asking voters to tax second homes eight-thousand dollars in a first year, and 10-thousand dollars a year after that. Vacant homes owned by corporations would be taxed 15-thousand a year starting with the second year. The previous version of the plan had also counted homes being used as vacation rentals, but that is no longer included.
