A voter ID initiative appears to have gathered enough signatures to appear on California’s November ballot. Proponents have gathered 1.3 million signatures. That is enough to start the formal county-by-county verification process. Signers must be registered California voters, and at least 874,641 signatures must be valid. If the proposal becomes a law, Californians would be required to present identification when voting. Election officials would also be mandated to verify the citizenship of registered voters.
