Congressman Kevin Kiley announced he has changed his voter registration from Republican to No Party Preference. Kiley said he hopes running as an independent voice will better represent constituents in California’s newly drawn Sixth District. This follows what he calls a redistricting war. Kiley said the move is meant to push back against political gerrymandering and growing partisanship — which he criticized in both parties — while referencing actions by Governor Newsom. He says most public offices in the state, like mayors, city council members, school board members, county supervisors, sheriffs, and district attorneys, are already nonpartisan.
