An Iranian woman who lives in Southern California made her first court appearance yesterday on charges that she sold weapons on behalf of Iran. Shamim Mafi was arrested at LAX on Saturday night after she allegedly tried to flee the country. The 44-year-old is charged with brokering the sale of drones, bombs, and millions of rounds of ammunition. Federal prosecutors say those weapons were manufactured by Iran and sold to the war-ravaged nation of Sudan. Maki is facing a single count of conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. If convicted, she could get 20 years in prison. The Feds say she’s an Iranian national who became permanent U.S. resident in 2016. She’s due back in court on Thursday.
