Southern California is bracing for intense heat and heightened wildfire risk today as temperatures surge across the region. Most communities are expected to experience highs in the 80s and 90s, while some inland neighborhoods may climb to around 100 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, today is likely to be the hottest day of the week. Meteorologists are also cautioning residents about short periods of elevated to critical fire weather conditions that could last through Tuesday. The dangerous combination of excessive heat, very low humidity, and strong winds is increasing the threat of fast-moving fires. Wind gusts are forecast to range from 25 to 35 miles per hour, especially in inland areas where humidity could drop between six and 15 percent during the afternoon. Forecasters expect temperatures to cool later in the week before another warming trend develops next weekend across Southern California, bringing renewed concerns about fire conditions for residents.
