California election officials are continuing to count ballots following Tuesday’s closely watched primary elections, with several key races attracting national attention. While the race to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom remains too close to call, two candidates have emerged as likely frontrunners. Democrat Eleni Kounalakis appears positioned to advance, and she is expected to face Republican Steve Hilton, who has received an endorsement from President Donald Trump. Former Congresswoman Katie Porter has conceded the race.
In Los Angeles, the contest for mayor is also drawing interest. Reality television personality Spencer Pratt appears on track to secure a spot in a runoff election against incumbent Mayor Karen Bass.
Meanwhile, in Iowa’s Republican primary for governor, Trump-backed Congressman Randy Feenstra conceded after falling short against businessman Zach Lahn. Voters also headed to the polls Tuesday in New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Montana, where additional primary elections were held.
