More people are being forced to evacuate as the Timber Fire continues to grow in Monterey County. New evacuation orders were issued as the wildfire expanded Sunday, burning more than 12,600 acres in and around the Los Padres National Forest. CAL FIRE officials reported the blaze was only 25 percent contained as of late Sunday, as firefighters continued battling the flames in challenging terrain. Evacuation orders were expanded Saturday into Sunday as the fire pushed eastward, threatening communities and areas near Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The Timber Fire has been burning for more than two weeks after it started along a trail in the national forest. Officials continue to warn residents in affected areas to follow evacuation orders and remain prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Fire crews are working to contain the blaze and protect homes, infrastructure, and other structures as the fire spreads through dry vegetation.
