Four people are dead following a single-car crash in Wrightwood early this morning. The California Highway Patrol says the vehicle went off a cliff at about 1:30 a.m. along Highway 2 near Flume Canyon Road, close to the Los Angeles-San Bernardino County line. Authorities say the car plunged from the roadway and rolled into a meadow below. Emergency crews faced difficult terrain while working to reach the victims. Rescuers used approximately 40 feet of cable to lower themselves down the steep cliffside and access the crash site. Four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. A fifth person survived the crash and was rescued, but officials have not released information about that person’s condition. Investigators are working to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. The crash remains under investigation, and CHP officials have not released the identities of the victims pending notification of their families.
