Prosecutors in Los Angeles County say they will not seek the death penalty against Nick Reiner, who is accused of killing his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced the decision during a news conference this morning. Hochman said prosecutors considered the views of the victims’ family members, as well as the potential impact a capital punishment case could have on surviving relatives. Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in December. Investigators say both victims suffered multiple sharp-force injuries. Nick Reiner is facing charges in connection with their deaths as the case moves forward in Los Angeles County. Prosecutors have not provided additional details about the evidence against him. The decision not to pursue the death penalty means prosecutors will instead seek a different sentence if Reiner is convicted. The case remains under investigation and is expected to continue through the criminal court process.
