Two men are being held without bail after allegedly attacking a San Jose State University student on campus last weekend. Christian Petty and Josue Flores are facing assault and hate crime charges in connection with the incident. Both suspects made their first court appearances Wednesday. Prosecutors allege Petty and Flores yelled anti-gay slurs at the victim and his friends before the attack near the Spartan Aquatic and Recreation Center. The suspects are accused of punching and kicking the student during the confrontation. Authorities say the alleged slurs and the circumstances surrounding the attack are part of the hate crime allegations against the two men. The victim’s condition has not been released. Petty and Flores remain in custody as the case moves through the court system. Their attorneys have not publicly commented on the allegations.
