An urgent search is underway for a person still missing after a medical helicopter crashed off Catalina Island. Two people are confirmed dead and two others are hospitalized following the crash. The fifth person aboard the helicopter has not been found. The helicopter went down in the water off Pebbly Beach shortly before eight o’clock Wednesday night, shortly after taking off. REACH Air Medical Services confirms one of its helicopters was involved in the crash. Search and rescue crews are continuing to comb the waters around Catalina Island for the missing person. The condition of the two surviving victims has not been released. Authorities have not yet said what caused the helicopter to crash. Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft, weather conditions and other factors as they work to determine what happened. The identities of the victims have not been released. Officials say the search remains active as crews work through the area where the helicopter went down Wednesday night.
