Authorities are investigating the death of a man at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey, where rough ocean conditions may have contributed to a possible drowning. The Los Angeles County Fire Department says two bystanders spotted the man acting erratically near the water Sunday morning. Witnesses say he repeatedly went into the ocean to swim before returning to shore. The bystanders later saw him rolling around near the waterline and alerted emergency responders. A lifeguard attempted to save the man by performing CPR, but he died at the scene. Investigators believe the man may have been experiencing homelessness, although his identity has not been released. Authorities have not confirmed the exact cause of death, and an investigation is underway to determine what happened. Officials say foul play is not suspected at this time. The incident comes as officials continue warning beachgoers about dangerous surf and unpredictable ocean conditions along the Southern California coast.
