The San Francisco Department of Public Health is reportedly investigating two cases of active tuberculosis linked to a Market Street strip club. NBC Bay Area reports health officials confirmed they are looking into two cases associated with the Crazy Horse club. UCSF infectious disease specialist Dr. Peter Chin-Hong says the cases do not necessarily indicate an outbreak. In a statement, the health department says it is working to identify people who may have been exposed to the disease. Officials emphasize that the risk to the general public is currently low. Tuberculosis, or TB, is caused by bacteria that spread through the air and primarily affect the lungs. Health experts explain that only people with active TB infections can transmit the disease to others. The bacteria can spread when an infected person coughs or otherwise releases infectious particles into the air. Anyone concerned about potential exposure should watch for symptoms and consult a healthcare provider for guidance and testing.
