Port of Long Beach hosted US Trade Representative Michael Froman today who spoke about the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Speaking at the Port, Ambassador Froman talked about trade inequity on U.S. Exports.
“We face 70% tariffs on our auto exports, 50% tariffs on machinery, 35% tariffs on chemicals and up to 100% tariffs on some of the agricultural products that make it through this port. ”
Although Froman is advocating for jobs and exports the TPP will presumably provide, the Board of Harbor Commissioners has taken no position and continues to monitor the situation.
