The CHP closed down all westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway in Fontana Friday morning to investigate a shots fired call. CHP Public Information Officer Jesus Garcia says CHP received a 911 call at 4:09 a.m. from a motorist who said he’d been in a crash near the Citrus exit. Before officers arrived, they learned that the motorist also said he’d been shot at by a person in a white Chevy Silverado truck and that the white flashes he saw coming from the truck compelled him to swerve and crash into the vehicle. When officers arrived they found the Silverado stalled in the center divider. Unable to elicit a response from the driver, officers closed down all lanes and initiated a traffic break until they could figure out whether he had a gun.
A Fontana Police Special Tactics unit came on scene and got the driver out of the Silverado. He was treated for lacerations and other minor injuries and then booked on suspicion of DUI. Police found no evidence that any shots had been fired, according to Officer Garcia.
The westbound I-10 was reopened after two hours, at about 6:30 a.m. Eastbound lanes were closed for about 30 minutes.
