Uber has suffered a legal setback in Britain today. A British employment tribunal has ruled that Uber drivers are employees, not independent contractors, as the service claims. The ruling that tests the limits of the so-called “gig economy,” in which companies rely on individual to work as self-employed contractors without safety nets. Uber maintains it is a technology company that links self-employed drivers with people who need rides.
