The Los Angeles City Council has passed a $1.4 Billion plan to fix the city’s 11,000 miles of crumbling sidewalks. They have set up a 30-year timeline to accomplish this monumental task. But in case you want it done within your lifetime, they are also offering a 50% rebate for you to hire a private contractor. Kevin James, President of the Los Angeles Board of Public Works says their are three factors going into deciding who gets their sidewalks fixed first.
“One of them is dictated by the settlement the city entered into regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act. And that prioritizes 20 percent of the budget money.”
The second way of prioritizing is to repair the sidewalks around government facilities such as police and fire stations, recreation centers; also medical facilities and transportation corridors.
The third level of prioritization involves doing it yourself. The city will reimburse 50 percent of your cost up to a rebate cap.
You can go to sidewalks.lacity.org for more information.
The city can also help you remove the trees that broke up the pavement in the first place.
