Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco is criticizing President Trump’s endorsement of Steve Hilton for California governor.  On Sunday, Trump endorsed the conservative political commentator, who is Bianco’s Republican rival.  In a social media post on Monday, Bianco called it another case of politicians and insiders from Sacramento to Washington “picking our leaders for us.”  He went on to say “That’s not leadership. That’s a coronation.”  Bianco has previously shown support for Trump.

A bill designed to raise the minimum age for elder parole continues to move through the state legislature.  AB 2727 would raise the parole age for those convicted of violent sex crimes to 65-years-old.  It’s currently 50.  The bill is getting support after a pair of high-profile cases gained statewide attention.  Two men who were given long sentences after being convicted of molesting multiple children were both nearly released.  One man is now charged with new crimes and the other man’s parole is being reconsidered.  AB 2727 is now headed to the Appropriations Committee.

California Congressman Eric Swalwell is denying claims of inappropriate relationships with young staffers.  On Tuesday, the leading Democratic candidate for California governor spoke with reporters after an evening town hall at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Sacramento. Swalwell claims no staffers have been asked to sign nondisclosure agreements in the 13 years he has served in Congress.  He also claims no ethics complaints have been filed against him and denied ever having a sexual relationship with a staff member or an intern.

The development comes as negotiators, with support from regional intermediaries, worked to secure a last-minute breakthrough. As part of the arrangement, Iran has begun a limited reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global energy shipments, allowing some vessels to pass under controlled conditions.

The pause has also halted plans for a potential US strike on Iranian targets, easing immediate fears of a broader confrontation. Still, the agreement leaves several core disputes unresolved, including disagreements tied to Iran’s nuclear activities and differing interpretations of the ceasefire terms.

The federal government may pull Customs and Border Protection officers from San Francisco International Airport and other major “sanctuary” cities, according to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.  If this happens, international travel at SFO could stop.  Airports like SFO or New York’s JFK would have to reroute international flights.  In an interview with Fox News’s “Special Report,” Mullin says the DHS is considering whether cities that don’t cooperate on immigration should lose customs services entirely.

CNN thinks the California Governor’s race is worthy of national attention. The channel is hosting a debate with California’s candidates for governor. It’s a rare move for CNN to air a state debate, but it says the race is relevant to the country since about 1 in 8 Americans live in California. Also, the state’s jungle primary system allows for debate on a lot of issues that will resonate across America during a pivotal election year. The two Republicans leading the race, Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco, should make the cut, along with about six Democrats. It’ll air live from Los Angeles on May 5th.

President Trump is giving his “complete and total endorsement” to Republican candidate Steve Hilton in California’s race for governor.  On Sunday, the president praised Hilton as someone who can restore California, while sharply criticizing Governor Gavin Newsom and state Democrats over crime, taxes, and residents leaving the state.  According to a recent Berkeley IGS poll, Hilton is leading the open primary field, just ahead of Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell and Republican Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.  The endorsement could energize Republican voters.
