Fatal Pedestrian Accidents – LA County is No. 1

By

/

Los Angeles County is leading the nation in pedestrian traffic deaths. According to figures compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 281 people died in Los Angeles County after being hit by a vehicle.  Maricopa County (Phoenix) in Arizona came in second with 94 fatalities. Auto Insurance Center Senior Analyst Justin Loera says he’s not surprised that LA came in at the top of the list.

Particularly With its dense population and its infamy for traffic, the combination of high population and aggressive driving culture would seem to make LA a likely candidate for high pedestrian fatalities.

The worst intersection in the country for pedestrian fatalities is Vincent Street and Central Court in Redondo Beach, where 44 people were killed in 2014. Loera says the intersection is in a school zone, yet has no cross walk. Loeri was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show with Doug McInyre and Terrie Rae Elmer.
