An Ohio bicyclist touring the country is in critical condition after she was hit by a car near West Glacier Sunday.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper John Underwood says the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 2 between West Glacier and Coram.

Underwood says Shelli Snyder was riding her bike east on the highway when she tried to turn left at the intersection with Belton Stage Road, when a man driving 65 mph hit Snyder from behind.

Snyder is being treated for what are described as life threatening injures at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation, but Underwood says alcohol was not a factor, and the driver was not driving above the speed limit.

Snyder is from Cleveland and co-founded Bike Cleveland, which is works to improve policy, infrastructure, and legislation to help make roads places that serve people and communities, not just traffic
A gofundme page for Snyder raised over $22,000 by Monday night.
