Study: Tattoos no longer taboo for job seekers

The stigma against tattoos in the mainstream business community seems to be vanishing. A new study shows that more businesses are willing to hire consider people with body ink.   Michael French, professor of health economics at the University of Miami Business School says the times have changed.
“What we’ve uncovered in some of our qualitative research, and others as well, is that people’s attitudes about tattoos are changing to the point where they view it more as a fashion statement, much like hair color or jewelry or clothing.  And others are getting tattoos for very sentimental reasons; to honor a person in their life who’s no longer with them or to commemorate and important event in their life.”
He says he’s noticed the trend in his own work.
“I teach an executive MBA class for health professionals which includes some high-level health executives in the health care industry, including physicians, and it’s a weekend course and you’d be surprised at how many of these professionals have visible tattoos when they’re in casual clothing.”
