California Governor Gavin Newsom tells the San Francisco Chronicle Northern California would be better off if Pacific Gas and Electric were broken up into smaller utilities. Recently, he supported a failed effort to buy up PG&E’s San Francisco equipment for two-and-a-half-billion-dollars. But this marks a big departure. As mayor, Newsom opposed a public utility in San Francisco. And he hasn’t had a problem accepting PG&E contributions to his campaigns.
