(Sacramento, CA) — The California State Teachers Retirement System is considering divesting in the oil and gas industries. CalSTRS Board of Directors is facing pressure from youth groups worried about the climate crisis. Last year, a group known as Youth vs Apocalypse staged a die-in at the CalSTRS headquarters to highlight how climate change will harm younger generations. The Board is currently debating on shifting part of the 308-billion dollar fund toward industries that do not add climate-heating gasses into the environment.
