Heart-Attack Rates Climb As The Clocks Jump Ahead For Daylight Savings Time

Could losing an hour of sleep be hurting your health? When most Americans move the clocks ahead for Daylight saving time, hospitals report a 24-percent spike in heart-attack visits on the ensuing Monday. While this may seem coincidental, when we “fall back” and gain an hour of sleep, heart attack visits drop more than 20 percent. According to Business Insider, researchers estimate we don’t lose an entire hour of sleep, but more like 40 minutes due to the clock change. Overnight workers are the ones really getting short-changed however, as they only get for seven hours. If you are reading this, congratulations, you made it to Tuesday.
