(San Francisco, CA) — A community panel is recommending San Francisco change up to a third of its public school names. That includes schools named after Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Senator Dianne Feinstein. A total of 44 of the city\’s 125 public schools are targeted by a dozen people appointed in January to identify names with any negative associations, including slavery, genocide, colonization, exploitation and oppression. Feinstein is knocked for replacing a confederate flag at city hall after it was vandalized in 1986 when she was mayor. Alumni and parent groups are already gearing up for a fight. A school board vote isn\’t expected until at least January or February.
